AAC Core Boards

Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD)

Below you will find 32- 60- and 96-location AAC core boards that have been used extensively by Dr. Sturm and her educational teams when implementing all three components of Author Time (Explicit Lessons, Writing Time & Author’s Chair) in self-contained special education classrooms. Dr. Sturm and her team wear AAC core and fringe boards, providing aided language stimulation, and opportunities for student use, throughout all phases of writing instruction.

The AAC core boards were developed by Dr. Maureen Staskowski, the former Speech, Language, and Literacy Consultant, and Sue Hardin, the former Assistive Technology Consultant, at the MISD. Notice that the items at the top of the 60- and 90- location boards support early language structures (e.g., infinitive “to” and plural -s).

Please click on the link below to obtain free copies of these AAC core boards. Stay tuned for resource handouts that will offer science-based tips for using the AAC core boards to model common complex structures in utterance scripts.

AAC Core Boards can be used by ANYONE to help with language use and understanding!
